Here's a list of events to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend around Oshkosh.

OSHKOSH – The nation will spend this weekend remembering and honoring many of those who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces.

If you’re looking for a way to pay your respects, then you definitely don’t need to go too far, with seven different Memorial Day events being staged between Oshkosh and Omro in a five-day span starting May 22.

Here’s a list of those activities and where to find them.

May 22: EAA Aviation Museum Speaker Series: The First Air Cavalry in Vietnam

U.S. Army helicopter pilot Dick Hanusa will share his stories of flying the UH-1 Huey.

U.S. Army helicopter pilot Dick Hanusa will share his stories of flying the UH-1 Huey as the latest edition of the EAA Aviation Museum Speaker Series.

The event starts at 7 p.m. May 22 and will be held at EAA Museum at 3000 Poberezny Road. Admission is $5 for the general public and free for EAA members.

May 24-25: Hmong National Memorial Day Festival

Community members can visit the Winnebago County Community Parks for a two-day Hmong National Memorial Day Festival.

Winnebago County Community Parks will play host to a two-day Hmong National Memorial Day Festival starting at 7 a.m. May 24.

The day's proceedings will feature several sporting competitions, including soccer, volleyball and cornhole, along with music and various food vendors.

Adult tickets are $8 per person and the festival runs 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 24 and 25.

May 24: Oshkosh Truck in World War II presentation with Tim Wright

Historian Tim Wright presents the history of Oshkosh Truck in World War II during a presentation at the Oshkosh Public Library.

Historian Tim Wright presents the history of Oshkosh Truck in World War II during a presentation at the Oshkosh Public Library from 10 to 11 a.m. May 24.

Wright will delve into how the company adapted its vehicles to supply W-Series snowplow trucks to the U.S. military in attempt to assist bases stationed in winter climates.

Admission is free to the public.

May 26: Annual Oshkosh Patriotic Council Memorial Day events

Coordinated by the Disabled American Veterans Post 17, the day begins with the "Reading of the Names" at South Park Memorial at 7 a.m. Names are read out loud of those area service members who were killed in action.

After that, there will be a Waterfront Ceremony held by the AMVETS Post 7 Auxiliary along the Fox River near the Oshkosh Convention Center at 8 a.m. This ceremony will include the laying of flowers in the water by members of the Oshkosh Veterans Service Organizations to commemorate those who lost their lives at sea.

Veteran service organizations, scouting units, military vehicles, law enforcement and first responders will then gather to line up for the procession at Jackson Street before they make their way down Algoma Boulevard to the Riverside Cemetery. 

Director of Veterans Service Office for Winnebago County Del Volpel is slated to give a featured address for the primary Memorial Day Service at Riverside Cemetery. At the conclusion of the ceremony, members of the Winnebago Detachment Marine Corps League No. 357 will provide a 21-gun salute.

May 26: Free admission to the Military Veterans Museum

Bob Griffin, a volunteer with the Military Veterans Museum, gives a tour to wives of veterans that get together for support and share and lunch. The Military Veterans Museum houses military artifacts and has a working motor pool for the military vehicles on display.

Military Veterans Museum and Educational Center at 4300 Poberezny Road will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 26.

Community members can learn more about U.S. military history at the museum while paying respects to the country's fallen.

May 26: Sons of the American Legion Squadron 70 Annual Memorial Day brat fry

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron will host its annual Memorial Day brat fry from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 26 at the Cook-Fuller American Legion Post 70 at 1332 Spruce St.

May 26: Omro Memorial Day Car Show

Future Omro Chamber will be hosting the 38th Annual Omro Memorial Day Car Show and Craft Fair at Scott Park.

The event is free to the public and features 29 classes of cars along with food, handmade goods, unique finds and specialty items.

Car registration opens at 7 a.m. and is $10 per vehicle.
