Where Is the Malcolm in the Middle Cast Now? All About Their Lives Nearly 20 Years After the Show Ended

Frankie Muniz as Malcolm

Muniz played the titular character on the popular sitcom.

Over the years, he has appeared on series such as Criminal Minds and Last Man Standing. In addition to acting on-screen, he has hit the dance floor, competing on season 25 of Dancing with the Stars.

Muniz has also pursued a career in race car driving. In 2024, he announced he was joining Reaume Brothers Racing as a full-time driver for the 2025 season of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

"I want people to know that I've literally dedicated my life to this," he told PEOPLE in October 2024. "I love it. When I'm not in the race car, I'm thinking about being in the race car."

When it comes to juggling acting and racing, Muniz added, "I hope to just prove to people that I can do both."

In 2019, Muniz married model Paige Muniz (née Price). After eloping in October 2019, the couple held a formal wedding in February 2020. They later welcomed a son, Mauz Mosley Muniz, in March 2021.

In recent years, Muniz has made appearances on several TV shows, including The Rookie, New Amsterdam and Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens.

Jane Kaczmarek as Lois

Kaczmarek delivered tough love as Lois, the matriarch of the Wilkerson family.

At the Emmys, she was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series throughout her entire run on the series — a total of seven times.

In 2008, Kaczmarek played Judge Trudy Kessler on the TNT legal drama Raising the Bar. In recent years, she has had roles on This Is Us, Carol's Second Act, Mixed-ish and The Changeling.

Kaczmarek was married to The Handmaid's Tale actor Bradley Whitford for 16 years and had three children together. The couple filed for divorce in 2009.

Bryan Cranston as Hal

Cranston played Hal, the supportive but immature dad on Malcolm in the Middle.

In the almost two decades since Malcolm in the Middle ended, Cranston has acted in a wide array of projects.

Two years after the sitcom, he played chemistry teacher-turned-drug-lord Walter White on the critically acclaimed AMC drama Breaking Bad, for which he won a total of six Emmys.

Aside from Emmys, Cranston has also won two Tony Awards for Best Leading Actor in a Play, in 2014 and 2019, respectively. Notably, he played Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in Trumbo, earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in 2015.

Cranston has continued keeping busy, acting in Godzilla, Power Rangers, Isle of Dogs, Asteroid City and The Phoenician Scheme. He starred in both seasons of Your Honor on Showtime and three episodes of Apple TV+'s The Studio.

Cranston has been married to actress Robin Dearden since 1989. The pair share one daughter, Taylor Dearden, who recently had a breakout role on the first season of The Pitt.

Christopher Masterson as Francis

Masterson portrayed Francis, the oldest of the Wilkerson brothers.

Following the end of Malcolm in the Middle, Masterson made guest appearances on White Collar, Men at Work and Haven.

Outside of acting, Masterson has become a DJ. While speaking to A Drink With in 2012, he said he began dabbling with turntables "five or six years ago."

"I started doing it and realized really quickly how much work that it takes to go out and play and not suck," he continued. "I deejayed in my bedroom for two years, literally two years that I’d just be whiling out in my bedroom."

Masterson wed Yolanda Pecoraro in August 2019. They announced the arrival of their first child, a daughter named Chiara Darby, in April 2021.

Justin Berfield as Reese

Berfield played Reese, Malcolm's mischievous older brother.

Berfield has mostly been behind the camera since his Malcolm days. As Variety reported in 2010, Berfield and his producing partner, Jason Felts, launched Virgin Produced, a "Los Angeles-based film and television development, packaging and production company."

One of his most recent projects was the E! 2022 reality series, Relatively Famous: Ranch Rules, which he was an executive producer on.

In his personal life, Berfield has two children.

In a May 2025 Instagram post, Berfield posted a series of images from the set of the Malcolm in the Middle revival.

"It was so amazing catching up with old friends and met some amazing new ones!" he wrote. "We’re so lucky that we got to come back to these characters after 20 years and see where they’ve been."

"I had so much fun getting to go back to my old life as an actor," Berfield added. "Now it’s back to carpools and diapers!"

Erik Per Sullivan as Dewey

Per Sullivan played Dewey, the lovable brother on the series.

Per Sullivan appeared in the 2010 Joel Schumacher film, Twelve, starring Chace Crawford and Emma Roberts, but has since left the world of acting.

In a 2024 interview, Kaczmarek, who played his TV mom, said that Per Sullivan was doing "very, very well."

"He did Malcolm for seven years. He started at 7, he ended at 14," she continued. "He wasn't interested in acting at all."

In a June 2025 episode of the Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade podcast, Cranston revealed he spoke with Per Sullivan about the revival, but the former child actor had no interest in returning.

"He's really, really smart, and he's getting his master's at Harvard right now," Cranston continued. "He said, 'Oh, God no. I haven't acted since I was nine or something, so I'm not into it.' "
